Elk Hunting in Colorado

MarkDavies (11)For “everything you ever wanted to know about elk hunting in Colorado”, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (formerly DOW, Division of Wildlife) now offers “Elk Hunting University” online.

No, this isn’t a joke!

Following is the course outline from http://cpw.state.co.us/learn/Pages/EHU-CH1.aspx

Of course, Mark & his crew of professional hunting guides do all the “heavy lifting” for you. As a professional guide and outfitter, Mark will provide the scouting, horses, hunting camp gear, the planning, logistics… and LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!

Mark and his crew are happy to visit and share their first hand expert knowledge – before, during, and after your guided lion, bear, deer, or elk hunting trip!

Elk Hunting in Wilderness areas – Colorado Rocky Mountains

You will be hunting elk, deer and bear in the Colorado Rocky Mountain high country, specifically the White River &/or Gunnison National Forests, &/or on BLM ground.  These areas are known for their high concentration of elk, mule deer, and bear; the elk herd in this region is considered to be the LARGEST in the United States.

Designated as a wilderness area, access is limited to no motorized vehicles, which means hunting will be on foot or by horseback.
Horses provided are gentle and sure-footed on these rugged Rocky Mountain trails.

The base deer and elk hunting camp can be reached by 4WD vehicles; Mark and his crew provide transportation from Grand Junction to camp and back.  Bring your sleeping bag, as you will be camping out in tents in the beautiful high country of the Colorado Rocky Mountains for both guided deer and elk hunts, as well as for the drop camps.

Colorado Hunting Seasons

Deer & Elk Hunting + Black Bear!

Colorado deer and elk hunts begin with Archery Season in August, followed by muzzleloader and rifle hunting seasons, which run from September through November.

Black bear can be hunted during the archery or muzzleloader season, providing you also have an elk license.

Mountain Lion Hunting

The Colorado Mountain Lion Hunting Season begins in November or December and runs through February or March.
